Rockers High Voltage take to the Bunters Thursday Live Music stage with support from Lost Soul District. Have your air guitars ready for 9pm!
Thursday the 23rd of February sees one of Bunters favourites, High Voltage, return to the stage for their first Bunters gig of 2012 & this time thet're bringing their mates! Tonight we get two bands for the price of one! Support comes in the form of Lost Soul District who will be kick off proceedings at 9pm.
High Voltage was formed in January 2008 when Evo, Mark, Graham and Paul met for a beer one evening in a pub in St Agnes. The line up consisted of Evo taking up the lead vocals and bass guitar, Mark and Paul sharing both lead and rhythm guitar duties and Graham on drums. After discussing a few songs to work on to get the ball rolling, they soon began rehearsing on a weekly basis to get ready for their debut gig 6 months later. They all had the same taste in music, covering blues, rock and metal which would form the basis of the material they would play in the band. Initially they didn’t have a name for the band, until one of them suggested doing a cover of the AC/DC song ‘High Voltage’. This lit a light bulb above Mark’s head and after suggesting it to the others it was agreed that it was the perfect name – HIGH VOLTAGE was born!
Their first gig was at The Peterville Inn, St Agnes on the 28th June 2008 in front of a friendly crowd, consisting mainly of family & friends with a few locals. On the whole the gig went well and after contacting many local venues the diary started to look pretty good for the rest of the year. They were playing various venues throughout Cornwall from Lands End to Wadebridge.
In January 2011 they recorded their first full length CD album, featuring 14 tracks. The whole thing was done in house from playing the songs on the day of recording, mixing them down, designing the CD and the packaging. Prior to the CD packaging being completed, Paul informed them that he was leaving the band. After being in the band since day one, and after playing 138 gigs, Paul decided it was time for him to move on and that he wanted to pursue a new music venture with The Mickey Finn Band, another local rock covers band. Following his decision to leave, they decided to call the album ‘End of Part 1’. Paul agreed to give a months notice to find a replacement and get him up to speed. This left the HV lads with a bit of a predicament – who would they get to replace him?
Step forward Truro lad Heron Wallace! Heron is an amazing guitar player, and they couldn’t have wished for a better bloke to replace Paul.
High Voltage is soon to enter its 5th year, and is already shaping up to be the biggest year for the band already. To find out more in fo about the band check out their website at www.highvoltage-cornwall.com
